We’ve looked at some really cool costumes and now it’s time to learn something about the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper, also known as the Angel of Death is considered to be the personification of death, an Immortal creature that uses its scythe to harvest the souls of the dead and and take them to the gates of Heaven or Hell. The scythe also holds much of the Reaper‘s powers which he controls. A skeleton crow accompanies the Grim Reaper and its purpose is to deliver scrolls with people’s names who are going to die when the Grim Reaper visits them.

Stories have been told how the Grim Reaper can cause the victim to perish which in turn have lead to tales of the reaper being bribed or tricked, even outwitted to escape death. Others believe the reaper to be just the ‘guide of souls’ or ‘phsychopomp‘ responsible for severing the last ties between body and soul and guiding the soul onto the afterlife, without having any influence on the death of the victim.
